It was a bit of a dreary day at Orphans of the Storm®, but the dogs were happy to spend some time outside and stretch their legs in the off-leash run.

Chapo the one-and-a-half-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix is a playful pup with plenty of energy. He was very eager to come outside and have a chance to romp around. When we got to the off-leash run, Chapo very quickly found a stuffed reindeer toy, picked it up, and ran a few laps. He eventually dropped it so I could pick it up and throw it for him to chase, which he enjoyed. There were a couple of tennis balls in the run also, but Chapo wasn’t too interested in those; he seems to prefer stuffed toys.

Chapo is always on the move (hence the blurriness)

Chapo gets along with some dogs better than others. He was originally sharing his kennel with another dog who has since been adopted, but there were a couple dogs we saw while we were out that got him more wound up than others. Since Chapo is still pretty young, he could definitely benefit from some training. Chapo is an affectionate boy who happily joined me on the bench for some snuggling. If you’re looking for a fun-loving pooch, come in soon to meet Chapo!

Bubba the ten-year-old Cocker Spaniel mix is a super-cute senior looking for a nice home in which he can spend his golden years. Bubba is about as mellow as they come. He walks nicely on the leash, though he does like to stop and sniff every once in a while. When we got to the off-leash run, he took his time exploring and never moved too fast.

Bubba not too sure about the snow

Bubba kept to himself at the beginning, but he eventually warmed up and enjoyed getting a good scratch on the back and behind his (curly and adorable) ears. Bubba also seems to like other dogs, based on the way he sniffed and wagged his little tail at the dogs on the other side of the fence. If you’re looking for a sweet companion to add to your family, be sure to say hi to Bubba on your next visit to the shelter!

Angel the nine-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix might look sort of big and muscle-y, but in fact she is very gentle. Walking her on the leash was easy because she never strayed too far from my side. Angel is another senior dog, so she’s pretty calm and enjoys taking it slow. When we got to the off-leash run, she spent most of her time following her nose through the snow and under the bushes.

Angel says, “Who, me?”

Angel certainly is named appropriately. She’ll stay by your side as long as you’re petting her and might even give you a doggy kiss if you’re lucky! She has quickly become a volunteer favorite because of her sweet disposition. Angel is ready to head to her new forever home and snuggle up with her new family. Stop by soon to meet Angel!
