Orphans of the Storm® Dogs Are Ready for Fall

If you like taking autumn strolls to enjoy the changing leaf colors, think about adding a new walking buddy to your home! The dogs at Orphans of the Storm® are ready and waiting.

Maggie the ten-year-old Border Collie mix is a sweet senior. She was eager to come out for a walk and greeted me with a wagging tail. We headed straight for the woodland trail, where Maggie showed off what a good walking companion she is. She walks at a nice pace and doesn’t pull. She found a small bush with lots of stems and had a great time using it as a back-scratcher.

Maggie occasionally does a cute half walk/half run, which ends up looking more like a bunny hop. When we passed other dogs on our walk, Maggie seemed politely interested and gave one of them a quick sniff hello. Maggie likes attention and will gladly stay by your side while you pet her. Jayda the five-year-old Boxer/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix is a well-behaved girl. She was the best leash-walker I met this week; I don’t think she pulled even once. Jayda is friendly and likes to snuggle. Although she didn’t give me any doggy kisses at this early stage in our relationship, she did put her nose up to my face a couple times, and I could see her being very affectionate once she gets to know a person better.

Jayda knows that the best place to relax is at the foot of a person’s seat. When we got about 3/4 of the way around the woodland trail, Jayda spotted a bench and immediately went over and lay down next to it. She was happy to get a side rub and scratch behind the ears while we relaxed. Since it was perhaps the last warm day we’ll be having for a while, Jayda got a quick rinse with the hose at the end of our walk and very nicely stood still for it. Yuri the three-year-old Husky mix is a very handsome boy with a playful nature. He was excited to come outside and quickly led the way to the off-leash run. He followed his nose around for a while, but then went back to the gate and looked at me like, “Are we going for a walk now?” So we did!

Yuri, being a Husky, could potentially be a good running buddy. I started to jog with him around the woodland trail, but we both determined it was too hot for that. Yuri gave me a quick doggy hug before we continued on our way. Yuri would do best as the only dog in an adult home. If that description fits you, come in soon to meet Yuri!

McGregor the one-year-old Labrador Retriever/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix was described as “awesome” by one of the other volunteers before I took him out. And he is indeed a good boy! McGregor can be a little bark-y inside his kennel to get your attention, but he was quiet and calm while we were out. McGregor is one of those dogs who truly smiles, and it is so cute.

McGregor seems like a pretty easy-going guy. He walks nicely on the leash, gives doggy kisses, and gets along with other dogs. He previously shared his kennel, so he could go to a home with or without another dog. He was happy to stay by my side, both while we were walking and when we were taking a break on the bench.
