There are more than a dozen Hounds waiting to meet you at Orphans of the Storm®, and of course plenty of non-Hounds too!
Howard the six-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix needed some convincing to go outside, but once he realized it meant going for a walk, he was excited. Howard gave me a doggy hug as soon as I put the leash on and continued to be sweet and snuggly the whole time we were together. He enjoys a good pet and will stand right by your side or lean against your legs while you pet him.
Howard, being a Hound, loves to sniff. He kept his nose to the ground for the majority of our walk around the woodland trail, but still walked at a good pace and didn’t make too many stops or pull on the leash. Howard is housebroken and knows some basic commands, and would be motivated to learn more. Come in soon to see if Howard is the pooch for you!
Jake the one-year-old Hound mix is a playful puppy. Most of his photos were a white-and-tan blur because Jake is always on the move. He had a fun time running around the off-leash run and sniffing in the snow. Jake spends lots of time play-bowing and bouncing around also, even with people rather than other dogs.
Jake is affectionate too. He likes to give doggy hugs and maybe a doggy kiss or two. Jake is a go-with-the-flow kind of pup and didn’t mind getting dressed up in different outfits for his official portrait and other pictures. Since Jake is still a puppy, he’s looking for a home with people who can spend plenty of time with him. Be sure to say hi to Jake on your next visit to the shelter!
Sergeant the one-year-old Labrador Retriever/Australian Cattle Dog mix is very shy at first, but don’t let that deter you! Once you spend some time with him and get past the shyness, Sergeant shows what a sweet boy he is. He likes being pet once he starts feeling more comfortable, and will lay by your feet so you can pet him some more.
Sergeant doesn’t seem to have much experience with walking on a leash and can be a little resistant at first, but he ended up doing a nice job walking around the woodland trail. He got more curious the longer we were out and enjoyed sniffing around. Sergeant is looking for a family who will help him come out of his shell and give him plenty of love and encouragement. If that sounds like you, come in soon to meet Sergeant!
