Orphans of the Storm® has about a dozen dogs right now who are one year old or younger. If you’ve been thinking about adding a puppy or practically-puppy to your home, now is a great time to come in and meet some! There are also still plenty of middle age and senior dogs who would be happy to greet you too.

Murphy the six-year-old Hound mix is super snuggly and affectionate. He gave me a doggy hug as soon as he came out of his kennel and would have been happy to stay right there and get pet the whole time, but we eventually got to walking. Murphy will also cover your face in doggy kisses whenever he gets the chance. He enjoyed romping around the Enrichment Park but always came back to me for more cuddles. Murphy gets along with kids, so he’s ready to be a family dog.

Murphy went into full Hound mode once he hit the woodland preserve trail. He kept his nose to the ground and moved quickly, but didn’t pull as long as I was moving at the same pace. Murphy was very eager to look through the window at the cat room, but it would be best if he went to a home with no cats. Murphy has skin allergies and will need owners that can stay consistent with his medication. If you’re looking for a big, sweet, active boy, come in soon to meet Murphy!

Oreo the one-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix was found as a stray but is friendly with everyone he meets and has already become a volunteer favorite. He can pull a bit on the leash when he first comes out of his kennel, but settles into being a nice walking companion once you’re on the trail. His tail is constantly wagging and he seems attentive to whoever is walking him.

Oreo has a cute smile

Oreo likes to play with other dogs but can be a little rough-and-tumble, so he does best with bigger does who can put him back in his place when needed. (Since he’s barely out of puppyhood, he’s still learning proper playtime etiquette.) Once he’s done frolicking, he walks nicely side-by-side with his doggy friends. Come in soon to see if Oreo is the pooch for you!

Kobi the one-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix came from an owner that no longer had the time to take care of him. So, he has experience being a pet but would appreciate more stability in his next home. Kobi is a handsome boy with bright blue eyes that stand out against his dark brindle fur. He’ll be sure to catch your eye as you walk through the shelter!

Kobi likes to lead the way on walks and can pull on the leash occasionally. He doesn’t seem too fond of other dogs and usually barks when another one passes by, but otherwise he’s quiet. Kobi likes to sniff and explore. Since he’s still young, he’d enjoy going to an active home that will take him on regular walks throughout the day. Stop in soon to meet Kobi!

Mike the one-year-old Labrador Retriever mix is a sweet and happy boy. He gave me a doggy hug as soon as he came out of his kennel and also likes to give doggy kisses. Whenever I knelt down to his level or sat on a bench, Mike would come right over to snuggle. He put his front paws up on the bench next to me so I could pet him more.

Mike leading the way

Mike is a big fan of toys. We passed by one of the toy chests and he stuck his nose right in to find a toy he liked. He happily chased after and batted around an orange ball. Mike arrived at the shelter with another dog and seems to get along with other dogs in general. He also likes to chase cats, but just for fun. Be sure to say hello to Mike on your next visit to the shelter!

Cooper the four-year-old Mountain Cur/Labrador Retriever mix has a cute puppy look even though he’s a few years beyond puppyhood. He happily sniffed and explored around the off-leash run before going on our walk. Cooper does a nice job walking on the leash. He was very interested in watching the golf carts drive by when we were on the far side of the woodland preserve next to the golf course.

Cooper says hello!

Cooper enjoys attention. He would come over to me whenever I knelt down to his level so he could get pet. Cooper can be selective about his doggy friends, but does get along with some dogs. He has already gone to off-site events and done well with greeting many different people. Come in soon to meet Cooper!
