It was a perfect autumn day at Orphans of the Storm®, and the dogs were happy to romp around the woodland preserve trail. I unfortunately didn’t notice that my camera lens had a spot right in the middle, so I apologize for all of the dogs looking a little “ghosty” this week! They all have much clearer photos that you can look through on the Orphans of the Storm® website.
Maya the one-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix is a fan of snuggling. She’s an affectionate girl who likes to give plenty of doggy hugs and doggy kisses. Maya enjoys going for walks. She can pull a bit when she first comes out of her kennel because she’s excited, but settles into being a nice walking companion once you’re on the trail. Maya especially liked walking through the tall grasses and thoroughly sniffing.
Maya got multiple “Look how cute!” exclamations from customers when we were on our walk. She pulls a bit when she sees other dogs, but can be redirected. Maya is barely out of puppyhood, but she already knows some basic commands. She is looking for an experienced owner who can keep up with her training. Stop in soon to see if Maya is the one for you!
Candy the three-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix is a volunteer favorite. As soon as I let her out of the kennel, she sat right at my feet before giving me a doggy hug. She also gives the occasional doggy kiss. Candy loves rolling around on her back in the crunchy leaves and in the grass. She also enjoys getting belly rubs.
Candy walks pretty well on the leash. She sniffs some dogs politely and has gone on walks with a couple other dogs. Candy doesn’t mind getting dressed up for holidays and special events! (She was a cup of coffee for Halloween.) This happy girl always has a wagging tail and will always come to cuddle when you kneel down to her level. Stop in soon to meet Candy!
Bruno the nine-year-old Parson Russell Terrier/Beagle mix is an energetic guy–don’t let his older age fool you! Bruno likes to walk at a quick pace and would love to have a yard where he can run and run and run. He sometimes will chase after a toy, but can get distracted and forget to bring it back. Bruno is also a big talker.
Bruno gets along with other dogs and is currently sharing his kennel with Timmy (see below), so he could go to a home with or without another dog. He also gets along okay with children. Bruno enjoys getting pet and may even roll over for a belly rub. If you’re looking for that Terrier spunk, look no further than Bruno!
Timmy the eleven-year-old Cocker Spaniel mix surprised me when I found out how old he was–he was frolicking around the Enrichment Park like a much younger pup! Timmy has the softest fur I have pet in a very long time, so he will make a great cuddle buddy for his new family. Timmy has had it a little rough, so he’s looking for a comfy home where he can enjoy his golden years.
Timmy gets along with other dogs and is currently sharing his kennel with Bruno (see above), so he could go to a home with or without another dog. Bruno sometimes riles up Timmy and they have a barking contest, but Timmy is much mellower on his own. Timmy’s new family will need to give him daily eye drops and regular ear cleanings. If you’ve been considering opening your home to a senior, come in soon to meet Timmy!
Zeke the five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix was previously known as Boss but was returned recently after being in a home for many months. He can jump over and/or climb fences, even tall ones, and was escaping the yard. So, in his new home he will need to only go on leashed walks and have constant supervision in a fenced yard.
Zeke loves people and children, likes playing with toys, knows his basic commands, and walks great on the leash despite the fact that he is all muscle. He does not like any other animals, though, and needs to be the only pet in his new home without too many neighboring pets (such as in a condo building). Zeke is a handsome boy and seems to know it. If you’re looking for a large new family companion, be sure to say hello to Zeke!
