Love to follow your blogs!!! Kids & I have visited Orphans many times. One dog my daughter really bonded with was Saturn. We would love to see a post of you taking him out & your observations about him!!!! thanks!

Hi I noticed that there was not much about Astro. Could you profile him? He looks like a sweetheart and has been there awhile. Thanks.

    • AmyS says:

I’ve asked about Astro a couple times and for various reasons haven’t been able to take him out those days. But I will ask again! He recently got a haircut and is looking extra cute!

I just came upon this sight viewing Orphans facebook page and I absolutely love it. I know this is a big job to keep updated, so keep up the good work. I hope all of the dogs will be profiled here and get listed as “ADOPTED”!

    • AmyS says:

Thank you! I always get so excited when the Facebook page lists who has been adopted recently and I see the name of one (or more!) of my pooches on here. I hope the rest of them get “ADOPTED!!!” soon too!

    • Marcee says:

Absolutely. A great advantage for folks that want to rescue/adopt.

Wonderful to see all the sweet-pies playing, running around and looking beautiful in their current living arrangements. They all look happy and healthy.

Hi, I love this! Is there any way you could feature Zeus, the GSD soon? Also, is there any way, when you have these dogs out, that you are able to tell if they get along with other dogs? I’m disabled and I can’t get to Orphans to see the dogs in person, so this is a real help to me! I am an adult who lives with my parents and they have 2 other dogs. One is a large Border Collie mix who loves everyone and every thing, but the other is a Silky Terrier mix who thinks the world revolves around him and everything in it is his. He has toy sharing issues, so any dog I get would have to be able to deal with this…and his “Napoleon Complex”…lol. I would really love to be able to adopt Zeus, so this would be important for me to know. Thanks for what you do here!

    • AmyS says:

Thanks so much for reading! When I was at the shelter two weeks ago, Zeus wasn’t quite ready for adoption. When he’s ready, and if he hasn’t been scooped up before I get there, he seems like a great dog to take out! I usually only take out one dog at a time, unless they’re already kennelmates, so I only see them interact with other dogs with a fence between them–which isn’t always the best way to determine how they get along.
Your parents are more than welcome to bring their current dogs to the shelter to meet Zeus–in fact, the shelter highly encourages it! We want every home to be a “furever” home for the dogs, so it’s always a good idea to introduce pets beforehand. You can also call the shelter and speak to one of the staff for more information on Zeus’ background.
      I hope this helps!

I really love the work you are doing on this site. What an awesome way to present the dogs you have. I am a web designer and can recognize great work.

    • AmyS says:

Thanks so much! I have a great time writing this blog and I hope it helps spread the word about all of the wonderful dogs who are ready and waiting to be adopted.

  8. Jose says:

I was wondering if when you get an English bulldog I can be inform I would like to adopt one thanks

  9. Jennifer says:

I saw a profile of a young Pug named Buttons and we wanted to know if is still available for adoption?

    Thank You! 🙂

    • Buttons was still at the shelter when I was there on Saturday (super precious!) but I’m not sure if he’s been adopted since then. If you call the shelter at 847-945-0235, they will be able to let you know for sure.
Thanks very much for reading, and I hope you find your new furry friend!

  10. Erica says:

Wild Bill (Uber) aka Izzy (the black dachshund mix) does not scream for no reason or when I pick him up anylonger. He has overcome many of his foibles. He still has issues with rain & thunder, but is much less traumatized since we throw storm parties for him & he gets to enjoy treats. He has had a work out this year. Lots of practice. He is less protective of his food with me as I have convinced him that there is more food for such a good dog. He has made remarkable progress. Love you Wild Bill!

    • I love getting your updates on Wild Bill/Izzy! I thought he was such a good dog when I met him at the shelter, and I knew that all he needed was the right person who would be patient with him. I’m so glad you two found each other and that he’s been making such good progress. Give him a nice pet from me!

I would love to hear more about Biggie the Old English Sheepdog girl.We have been in twice to take her out and get to know her better. I know she cannot leave yet but would like more updates on her progress. I know she is getting treatment for ears and skin. Thanks!

  12. Kensi says:

A dong that would be a great companion is HoneyLamb! Check her out!

  13. Pam Nestel says:

I wanted to leave my estate to Orphans but was so disappointed to find that they are not a no-kill shelter as I was led to believe. If anyone knows of an alternate worthy shelter that is non-profit, no-kill and is truly in need, please respond.

  14. Ryin says:

Hello, I went there a couple weeks ago and fell in love with a dog named Hobs. I was wondering if he’s still there? Thank you

  15. Beth says:

Thank you so much for doing this! I’ve been looking for an older dog and have been eyeing Scotty and Lucy. Your blog gave me a a little more info on them. I need to make sure I have a dog who’s good with cats and I hope to go in soon to meet some of the dogs!

    • Glad to hear it! There are a lot of great older dogs at the shelter right now. We can do a cat test for you when you come in to see how the dogs you’re interested in do with some of the cats in our cat area. Just let them know at the front desk!

  16. Carrie Deslippe says:

I’m not seeing Copper. Is she gone?
