Orphans of the Storm® Dogs Who Are Different Shapes and Sizes

Orphans of the Storm® always has a wide variety of breeds for people to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a big dog, small dog, fluffy dog, short-haired dog, spotted dog, or solid-colored dog, there’s sure to be one that will catch your eye!

Lily the one-year-old Heeler mix is such a cutie, but somehow she keeps getting overlooked. She was very eager to come out for a walk and did a few spins of happiness before we went on our way. After her initial burst of energy, she walked nicely on the leash and was pretty calm and gentle the entire time I was with her. She’s much smaller than other Heeler mixes we’ve had at the shelter, which makes her even cuter!

Lily enjoys being outside

Lily is an adventurous girl who likes to explore. Even when she was still on the leash, she was doing her best to crawl underneath the bushes and find out what was going on. She’s a girl who likes to follow her nose. She wasn’t too interested in playing with a tennis ball when we were in the off-leash run, but her playful side will probably come out more once she’s settled in her new home. Stop by the shelter soon to see if Lily is the right companion for you!

Lily has such cute spots

Nana the seven-year-old Shepherd mix is a special girl looking for a special home. She has cancerous tumors, but you wouldn’t know that from spending time with her–I didn’t even know until after I had brought her back to her kennel and read her card more carefully. Nana is an absolute sweetie who has already stolen the hearts of several volunteers.

Nana is a sweetheart

Nana is an affectionate and gentle girl. She’ll happily give you doggy kisses and stay by your side as long as you’re petting her. She’s one of the “backyard dogs” who gets to hang out by herself in one of the fenced-in areas at the shelter, so we know she won’t be jumping any fences if you let her out in your own yard! It can be difficult to open your heart and your home to a pet when you aren’t sure how much time you’ll be able to have with them, but Nana will appreciate it! On your next visit to the shelter, be sure to say hi to Nana.

Magoo the three-year-old Shar-Pei mix is one of those dogs who will immediately make you smile, because his wrinkles are so cute! Magoo likes people and dogs alike. He’s currently sharing his kennel with another dog, and he also wanted to say a friendly hello to the other dogs who were out and about when we were. In fact, the only occasions where he pulled on the leash was when he wanted to say hi to somebody.

Magoo is a cutie

Magoo loves giving doggy kisses to anyone willing to be on the receiving end. Whenever I knelt down beside him, his wrinkly nose would be right there to greet me. His semi-curly tail was wagging almost the entire time we were together. This sweet, happy boy is ready to join his furever family. If you think that might be you, come in and meet Magoo!

I also saw Bella, Blush, Cooper, Diamond, Heaven, Jasmine, Scotty, Skippy, Trixie, and Winter.

Raining Cats and Dogs at Orphans of the Storm®

With the odd weather we had this weekend, I got to visit with both the dogs and the cats when I went to Orphans of the Storm®!

Tiger the two-year-old Pointer mix is a sweet, easy-going boy. Whether you’re taking long walks or relaxing on the couch, Tiger will be right there with you. I’m guessing Tiger got his name because of his handsome, unique markings and coloring. Tiger seems like he gets along with people and other dogs alike, based on the way he greeted the dog on the other side of the fence when we were in the off-leash run.

Tiger was happy to get a chance to stretch his legs and did a couple exploratory laps around the off-leash run before he came back to me to enjoy some good scratches on the back and ears. He’s a very alert and attentive boy and kept an eye on everything that was happening on the other side of the fence. Tiger walks nicely on the leash and was super easy to put back in his kennel. Stop by soon to say hi to Tiger!

Tiger is always up for getting pet

BooBear the one-year-old Hound mix is definitely still in her puppy phase. This big girl has plenty of playful energy and thinks everything can be made into a game. She was literally jumping up and down in her kennel when she realized it was her turn to go out, and was soon giving me doggy hugs and doggy kisses. A big, fenced-in yard would make BooBear very happy in her new home.

BooBear emerging from the bushes

BooBear, being a Hound, disappeared underneath the bushes for a while so she could do some exploring and follow scent trails. But she was back soon enough, and was trying to convince me that my camera was a dog toy (we ended up playing with a tennis ball instead). BooBear was originally sharing her kennel with another dog who has since been adopted, so she could go to a home with or without another pooch. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate pup, come in soon to meet BooBear!

Roscoe the two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix is such a good boy. Roscoe is at the shelter because his original family no longer had the time to take care of him–but they gave him the foundation he needs to be an excellent family pet. We know that he gets along with children and cats, and he walks nicely on the leash. He also loves to give doggy kisses.

Roscoe is never too far from his tennis ball

Roscoe’s favorite thing is tennis balls. He likes to play fetch, though it was a little too warm during my visit to really get a good game in. If he’s not fetching tennis balls, he’s either chewing them or just happily holding them in his mouth with his tongue sticking out the side. Roscoe joined me on the bench and tried to fit as much of himself on my lap as possible. His tail was wagging constantly. This sweet, happy boy is ready to go to a new, happy home! If you think Roscoe might be the one for you, come in soon to say hello!

I also saw Bear, Blush, Jasmine, Lady, and Shamrock.

And plenty of kitties! Since I don’t know the cats as well as I know the dogs, it was hard to tell how many were the same as the ones I had seen on my last visit to the cat room–but they’re always ready to snuggle, regardless!

Orphans of the Storm® White Dogs with Spots

It was a happy reunion with the dogs at Orphans of the Storm®, since I had missed them for three weeks! I was able to spend some time with my old buddies and make new furry friends, too.

Rocky the six-year-old American Bulldog mix unfortunately found himself at the shelter when his previous owner moved and couldn’t bring Rocky with them. Rocky is a big boy, but such a sweetheart. He already has years of experience as a pet, so he’s more than ready to begin his second chance at a happy, furever home. Rocky loves to be around people and never strayed too far from me when he was off-leash in the run.

Rocky enjoyed being in the outdoors

Rocky is an easy-going boy, too. His fur wasn’t as white as it could be, so after we took our walk we headed over to the hose for a quick bath. Rocky was pretty much perfect, standing still both while getting scrubbed with doggy shampoo and while getting rinsed. He looked so handsome afterwards! If you’re looking for a big pooch with a big heart, come in soon to meet Rocky!

Jessica the two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix was found as a stray along with her puppy, and both were brought to Orphans of the Storm®. Her puppy was adopted quickly, but as is too often the case, Jessica the mommy is waiting longer to find her new home. Jessica was understandably a little nervous at first, but she came out of her shell as we spent more time together.

Jessica Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix 1

Jessica wondering about this “camera” business

Jessica, despite being a stray, is very well-behaved. She walked on the leash pretty much ideally, staying by my side most of the time and rarely pulling. She seems pretty friendly with other dogs, based on the way she politely sniffed the dog on the other side of the fence in the off-leash run and showed an interest in some of the Chihuahuas that were out for a walk (though the Chihuahuas were not reciprocating niceties). On your next visit to the shelter, say hello to Jessica to find out if she’s the pooch for you!

Jessica is a pretty girl

Lexi the five-year-old Boxer mix is a friendly girl with a constantly wagging tail. She was absolutely thrilled when she realized it was her turn to go out and gave me a big doggy hug to show her appreciation. Lexi had plenty of energy when she first got to the off-leash run and had a great time racing the dog on the other side of the fence. After she had the opportunity to romp, Lexi plopped onto the ground next to me so I could pet her.

Lexi is all smiles when she gets attention

Lexi was wearing a cone the first time I saw her a few weeks ago and wasn’t able to go home yet, but now she’s ready! She does have remaining medical needs, which the staff at the shelter can discuss with you if you think you want to bring Lexi home. Lexi isn’t worried about any of that, though–she’s just excited to have the chance to find her furever family. Stop by the shelter soon to meet Lexi!

I also saw Blush, Cooper, Ginger, Jasmine, Red, Rock (who, you should remember, went to doggy boot camp and is fully trained), Scotty, Tucker, Zoey, and the other Zoey.

A Visit to the Orphans of the Storm® Cat Room

I’m a few days late, but June was the official Adopt a Cat Month. Any month can be your own personal Adopt a Cat Month, though, when you visit the cat room at Orphans of the Storm®!

This post will just be pictures of some of the cute kitties I spent time with on my last visit to the shelter, but I will tell you that the gray cat in my lap stayed there for an hour. When I got up and moved to a different part of the cat room in order to give other cats a chance to cuddle, my furry friend followed me and was back sleeping in my lap five minutes later. I don’t even consider myself a “cat person” and I was on the verge of picking up the phone and asking my family if I could bring my new friend home!

And if you are a cat person, Orphans of the Storm® is still looking for a cat blogger! If you’re interested and would like to learn more, please email meetthepooches@gmail.com.

There are so many sweet kitties at Orphans of the Storm® who are ready and waiting to find their furever home (and furever cuddle-buddy). Even if you’re like me and not a designated “cat person,” I highly recommend stopping in the cat room on your next visit.
