Orphans of the Storm® Dogs to Take on Walks

If you’re looking for a new companion to get you out of the house and moving, Orphans of the Storm® has lots of dogs ready to be your new walking buddy!

Nyla the two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is super sweet. She likes to give very gentle doggy kisses and lean against your legs so you can pet her. When you scratch her sides, she does a happy wiggle and looks up at you with a big doggy smile. Nyla is a perfect walking companion. She walks at an easy, steady pace and never pulls on the leash. She occasionally likes to pause and sniff around, but keeps moving for the most part.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Nyla 1

Nyla is happiest with a toy

Nyla loves toys, especially soft squeaky toys. She happily chases after a toy when you throw it, and then chews on it to hear the squeaker. Nyla also likes when you play tug-of-war with her. Nyla attends play group almost every day and loves playing with the other dogs. She could go to a home with or without another dog, and could also be a family dog for children. Nyla has some food allergies and will need to follow a special diet. Be sure to say hello to Nyla on your next visit to the shelter!

Ella the four-year-old Mastiff/Husky mix is very gentle, despite her large size. She likes to take her time meandering around the yard, stopping and sniffing and watching cars drive by. Ella sniffed at some of the toys in the yard, but wasn’t interested in playing with any of them on this particular outing. Ella has lots of fluff and will need regular brushing, and she politely stands still while her tufts of excess fur are brushed out.

Ella has one pretty blue eye and one pretty brown eye

Ella does very nicely on the leash. She walks just a few steps ahead and doesn’t pull at all. Where Ella really shines is in play group. She is a play group rockstar and can adapt to all play styles, from the gentle and dainty dogs to the rough and rowdy dogs. Ella has a long list of doggy friends. This means she could go to a home with or without another dog. If you’re looking for a big but gentle fluffball, come in soon to meet Ella!

Hero the six-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) mix is super affectionate. He gave me a doggy hug as soon as he came out of his kennel, as if we were already old friends. He also gave me some doggy kisses and wanted to snuggle every time I knelt down to his level. Hero likes toys and gently picks them up to carry them around the yard. He prefers to lead the way on walks and can occasionally pull when he wants to walk faster, but overall is a good walking buddy.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Hero 1

Hero romping in the Enrichment Park

Hero is looking for an experienced Cattle Dog owner who knows how to properly channel his energy and intelligence. He is food-motivated and eager to learn new tricks. Hero is not a fan of other dogs, so he is looking for a home where he can be your one-and-only. And since Cattle Dogs are known for herding anything, Hero would also do best in a home without young children. If that sounds like you, come in soon to meet Hero!

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Hero 2

Hero is very attentive

Jace the three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is a big, handsome boy. He was very mellow in the yard and slowly followed his nose around as he explored. He didn’t even notice when I threw a toy in his direction! When I sat down on the bench, he immediately came over and sat at my feet so I could pet him. Jace also has a tickly spot on his neck that he especially likes to have scratched while he kicks his back leg.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Jace 2

Jace knows how to turn on the charm

Jace can sometimes pull a bit on the leash if there’s a particular direction he wants to go, but in general he was happy to stay by me. He climbed into an empty puppy pool and snuffled around, so maybe he would also enjoy splashing around a puppy pool with water in it. Jace regularly attends play group and could go to a home with or without another dog. Stop in soon to say hello to Jace!

Princess the four-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is very sweet. She is a super easy walking companion–she stops when you stop, goes when you go, and keeps pace with you whether you’re walking faster or slower. Sometimes she walked so close to my side that I was worried about stepping on her paws! Even when she was off-leash in the Enrichment Park, Princess just followed me around and was rarely more than an arm’s length away.

Princess was a little concerned about the coming thunderstorm

Princess loves to get lots of pets and scratches. Whether it’s her back, chin, chest, or neck–she’s always happy to get attention. And she’ll gladly give you some doggy kisses in return. Princess enjoys treats and takes them gently. She poked a toy with her nose but wasn’t too interested in playing. Come by the shelter soon to meet Princess!

Orphans of the Storm® Dogs Shine Like the Sun

If you’re looking for a new furry family member to brighten your days, there are lots of dogs at Orphans of the Storm® right now eager to fill that role! (And also, the bright sun caused some serious shadows, so apologies for the darker photos.)

Garris the three-year-old Hound mix is super cuddly. He loves to give doggy hugs and will happily stand on his back legs for as long as you keep scratching his sides, neck, and ears. He also likes to give doggy kisses. Garris seems a little anxious at the shelter and can sometimes be a little mouthy when he gets wound up, like a puppy, but he’s still gentle about it.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Garris 1

Garris loves hugs

Garris enjoys playing with toys and happily chases them when you throw them, and then romps around the yard carrying one in his mouth. He can sometimes pull on the leash when he wants to go a certain direction, but he settles down as soon as you start petting him again. He literally melts into your lap! Garris gets along with other dogs, so he could go to a home with or without another dog. He could also go to a family with children over 10. If you’re looking for a sweet and snuggly companion, come in soon to meet Garris!

Ace the three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is a happy boy. He likes to share his happiness with others by jumping up and giving enthusiastic doggy hugs. Even so, Ace knows when it’s time to behave and knows “sit” and maybe some other basic commands. He also takes treats very gently. Ace loves treats in general, whether it be a rawhide, a stuffed Kong, or a Pupsicle.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Ace 2

You can’t help but smile back when Ace smiles at you

Ace walks nicely on the leash, both when using a harness and when using a regular collar. He enjoys rolling on his back in the grass and wriggling around to hit the right spot. Ace also likes dipping his paws into the puppy pool and splashing around on hot days. He isn’t a big fan of other dogs, so he is looking to be the only dog in his future home. Ace recently moved to a foster home, so you will need to call the shelter to schedule an appointment to meet him.

Gunner the six-year-old Shepherd mix is a big, strong boy. He can throw his weight around when he wants to, but generally is pretty gentle and easy to handle. Gunner liked to sniff at the toys in the yard, but wasn’t interested in playing fetch on this particular outing. He mostly preferred following his nose around the yard and meandering at his own pace.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Gunner Shepherd 2

Gunner kept to himself at the beginning of our time together, but by the end he was enjoying back and hip scratches and stood by my side to get more loving. Gunner likes to lead the way on walks and prefers going at a brisk pace. He participates in play group and has made some doggy friends that he enjoys romping with. This means he could go to a home with or without another dog. If you love big dogs, come in soon to meet Gunner!

Sophia the four-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is such a cutie. She wants to say hello to everyone she passes, human and dog alike. Although she pulls towards dogs when she passes them on walks, she never barks at them. Sophia particularly enjoys getting her chin scratched, but she’s happy to receive any attention. She sat at my feet to get some pets when I sat down on the bench and looked up at me with a happy doggy smile.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Sophia PBT 2

Sophia has the cutest pointy ears

Sophia walks nicely on the leash. She leads the way but never pulls. Sophia gets along with other dogs and attends play group. This means she could go to a home with or without another dog. Since she’s so gentle and sweet, she could also go to a home with children. One thing that her future family should know is that Sophia is capable of jumping fences, so she will always need to be supervised in the yard. If you’re ready to add a furry friend to your family, be sure to say hello to Sophia!

Delilah the two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is super happy. Her tail is constantly wagging and she always looks like she has a smile on her face. Delilah loves toys and can keep herself occupied by playing fetch with herself, tossing a toy into the air and then jumping up to catch it. Delilah is also very smart. When I asked if she was ready to go for a walk, she went straight to where her leash was hanging on the fence and eagerly waited for me to clip it on.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Delilah PBT 2

Delilah says, “Put on a happy face!”

Delilah loves to snuggle. She will lean into your lap or put her front paws in your lap and cover your face with doggy kisses. She also gives very sweet doggy hugs. When on walks, she starts by wanting to lead the way and can pull a little, but she slows down into a nice walking pace after her initial excitement gets out of her system. Delilah gets along with other dogs and regularly attends play group. She could go to a home with or without another dog. Stop by the shelter soon to meet Delilah!

Orphans of the Storm® Dogs in the Dog Days of Summer

What better time to add a dog to your home than during the dog days of summer? There are plenty of playful pooches at Orphans of the Storm® who are ready to enjoy the outdoors and sunshine with you!

Annie the two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is a super playful and happy girl. She loves toys and can easily keep herself entertained by playing fetch with herself, romping around the yard while carrying a toy, or plopping down and chewing on it. Annie also loves rolling around on her back in the grass and getting her belly rubbed. She likes hip scratches and will wriggle from one side to the other depending on where you’re petting her.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Annie 1

Annie is an active girl

Annie can pull a bit on the leash when she first comes out of her kennel, but she walks great on the trail when using a front-clip harness. She isn’t a fan of other dogs when she passes them on walks or sees them on the other side of the fence, but we are working on her dog socialization skills. She is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. Annie is a smart girl who already knows some basic commands and is housebroken, so she’s ready to settle into her new forever home. Come in soon to meet Annie!

Annie will enjoy snuggles post-playtime

Socks the one-year-old Shepherd mix is very gentle. He enjoyed meandering slowly around the yard, sniffing at all the new smells. Socks wasn’t too interested in toys on this particular outing, but he does enjoy getting lots of attention and pets. Socks is happy to greet people and walk right up to them to get more snuggles (and hopefully a treat!). When I sat down on a bench, Socks hopped up next to me. He just likes being close to his people.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Socks 1

Socks likes to lead the way on walks and moves at a brisk pace, but doesn’t pull on the leash at all. Socks gets along with other dogs and participates in play group with dogs who like to play tag with each other. This means he could go to a home with or without another dog. If you’re looking for a big, sweet boy, come in soon to meet Socks!

Data the one-year-old Shepherd mix is new to the shelter and still a little nervous about her new surroundings. She is very submissive and often rolls over onto her back when she’s not sure what else to do. But when you start rubbing her belly and tell her it will be okay, her tail starts to wag! Data is pretty skittish and doesn’t seem too familiar with walking on a leash, but she’ll get better with more practice.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Data 2

Data being braver in the yard

Data comes out of her shell more the longer she’s out of her kennel. When we went to the Enrichment Park, she started by just pacing at the gate. After a few minutes, though, she was exploring all the way out to the middle of the yard. She eventually came over to where I was sitting so I could pet her. Data has potential to go to a home with another dog or with a cat. This sweet puppy has lots to offer–she just needs the right comforting home to help her develop into her full potential. Be sure to say hello to Data on your next visit to the shelter!

Kara the four-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Weimaraner mix is a sweet girl. Her favorite thing is to be close to her people. Whenever I knelt down to her level or sat down somewhere, Kara would come trotting over without even being called and snuggle up next to me. She especially loves hip scratches and neck scratches. Kara enjoyed sniffing her way around the Enrichment Park. She chased after a toy when I threw it, but wasn’t interested in picking it up or playing with it.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Kara 1

Kara likes to stop and smell the roses (and other flowers)

Kara is a perfect walking companion. She stayed right by my side and didn’t pull at all. In fact, she walked so close to me that I was afraid I would step on her toes! Kara wanted to pause occasionally so she could smell the flowers and other plants lining the trail, and was also happy to pause for more pets. Come by the shelter soon to meet Kara!

Bubbles the two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix is very calm. She walks nicely on the leash, moving at an easy pace and not pulling at all. Bubbles especially likes to snuggle. Whenever I knelt down to her level, she came running over and rested her chin in my lap while I pet her. She also gave the occasional doggy kiss. When I sat down on the bench, Bubbles put her front paws up on the bench next to me and gave me a big, happy doggy smile.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Bubbles 1

Bubbles gets along with other dogs and attends play group almost every day. She already has a long list of doggy friends. Her favorite type of play style is to chase and be chased. When we were in the Enrichment Park, Bubbles politely sniffed a much larger dog on the other side of the fence. So, she could go to a home with or without another dog. If you’re looking for a happy, bubbly pooch, look no further than Bubbles!

Snow the two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix sits without even being asked when it’s time to put her leash on–both when she’s in her kennel, and when she’s in the yard. She would be eager to learn even more! Snow is super snuggly. When we went into the Enrichment Park, Snow immediately sat down next to me and just wanted to cuddle. When I eventually got up and walked away, Snow came over and stood in front of me so I had to stop and pet her more. She particularly likes getting her sides rubbed.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Snow 2

Snow often has a doggy smile on her face

Snow is a good walking companion. We made our way around the trail at a nice pace. Snow sometimes perked up when a chipmunk or bird crossed our path, but she didn’t try to chase after them. She especially enjoys rolling around on her back in the tall grasses. Snow regularly attends play group and does well with the calm and gentle dogs. She has potential to go home with another dog, but she does not like cats. Come in soon to meet Snow!

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Snow 1

Snow leading the way

Lupa the seven-month-old Labrador Retriever mix is still very much a puppy. She has lots of energy, but eventually plops down in a shady spot after she has a chance to run and play. Lupa loves toys. She happily chases after them when you throw them, and then runs a couple laps around the yard carrying them in her mouth. She isn’t possessive, though–when you reach out to take the toy back, Lupa drops it quickly and then eagerly hops up and down waiting for you to throw it again. Lupa is also learning to enjoy splashing around in the puppy pool and will dip her toes in if you throw a toy in the middle for her to fetch.

Orphans of the Storm Dogs: Lupa 1

Lupa ready for me to throw the toy

Lupa, still being a puppy, needs a little more practice walking on a leash. She likes to lead the way and would often rather run than walk. She would probably do best with a harness to prevent her from pulling as much–but once she’s in a home where she’s getting regular walks and exercise, she probably won’t have quite as much energy on every walk. Lupa attends play group and enjoys romping with the other dogs. If you’re looking for a fun and playful puppy, come in soon to meet Lupa!
